Andrew Wagner
Andrew Wagner is the founder of Wagner Road Capital Management, LLC, a Minnesota-based Registered Investment Adviser. He is the author of the economics textbook, The Economics of Online Gaming: A Player’s Introduction to Economic Thinking, and a passionate advocate for economics education. He was first introduced to the stock market through video games that simulated economic systems and financial markets. Experimenting inside these games inspired him to study economics, and it encouraged a way of looking at investments that is more comprehensive than what can be found in books alone.
Moving from simulated markets to real ones, Andrew made his first investment at 18, when he bought one B share of Berkshire Hathaway. The cost was his entire life savings, but the value was priceless. He has attended every Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting since that purchase, sometimes driving more than 2,000 miles to make the trip.
For a formal education, Andrew has a Master’s degree in Economics from Kansas State University with a focus on Industrial Organization. His Master’s Report, “The Economic Consequences of Network Neutrality Regulation,” analyzed the implications that Network Neutrality rules have on the Internet; for content providers such as Google and network providers such as Verizon. This research developed a deep understanding of Technology and Telecommunications markets.
Since then, his 10+ years of professional experience has covered a diverse range of investment consulting projects. He has done research in value investing, turnaround situations, biotech startups, dividend investing, real estate investing, and major industry and geographic trends. As a ghost writer, his research has appeared in national and regional publications.
Andrew lives in St. Paul, MN with his wife.
